Security Cameras

Surveillance cameras can serve as useful tools for personal and business safety. They act as deterrents to crime, means to alert authorities, and silent witnesses to events.

So what are some different kinds of security camera options available, and which one should you choose for your home or office?

The cheapest way to go is to get fake cameras. These obviously don't provide any surveillance capabilities, but by overtly setting up fake cameras around your premises, you ideally can deter would-be stalkers or robbers.

Conversely, you can set up covert systems of recording. These work on the opposite principle--a prospective robber or criminal won't know that they are on video camera, and thus if he or she does commit a crime, you will have a better chance of catching the act on tape and using the film as evidence in a potential trial. Covert cameras can range from pinhole cameras to spy type gadgets (such as cameras embedded in office clocks or picture frames).

So called "night vision" or low light surveillance can also be helpful, particularly if you are trying to guard a large swath of territory. For instance, let's say that you own a mansion in the hills of Pittsburg. Around the periphery of your property, you don't want to string up lights everywhere to provide adequate lighting, so you might want to get night vision cameras to guard your perimeter and alert you to the presence of potential trespassers.

Surveillance cameras designed specifically for homes abound as well. You can get wired or wireless cameras and choose from a variety of set ups ranging from extremely simple (one or two cameras) to elaborate (multiple cameras, advanced timing mechanisms, motion detectors, automatic reporting to the authorities, etc.).
